Serial Number Locator Guide
This page is intended to help you locate the required registration information for the Join/Renew page. It should be pointed out that having serial number information handy can be very helpful, especially when purchasing certain engine parts or in case your vehicle is ever stolen, etc.
Vehicle Data Plate
The Vehicle Data plate can usually be found on the rear edge of one of the doors, but can also be found on one of the front suspension towers. This is where you will find the Commission Number (later called the Vehicle Identification Number or V.I.N.), the Build Year, Build Month, Paint Code and Trim Code. There were several different ID plates used throughout production.
Body Number
In addition to the Commission Number/VIN, most cars were labeled with a body number. This is usually found on a small tag riveted beside one of the bonnet (hood) hinges. On some cars this tag can be found on one of the front suspension strut towers.
Located to the side of the hinge bolts on the front.
Engine Serial Number TR8
The V8's engine serial number is located on the left side between the middle two spark plugs.
Engine Serial Number TR7
On the 4 cylinder engine, the serial number can be located by looking down between the carburetors
